As with every summer, here we go again with a backyard disaster and grass dying. Why am I Aerating in the Middle of Summer?
Do you have anything that works on giant hornets?? I moved out of the city (before you rant on me i lived my whole childhood and most of my teen years in a village) to a nearby smaller city-village kinda thing a lot of nature while having doctors and where to get groceries and stuff lol basically i have a balcony... there is a lake nearby and like of course there are trashcans.. basically I CANT ENJOY ANY MINUTE ON MY BALCONY AFTER DARK and it pisses me off.. had 2 of them come in my home where my kids are running around one after another in 15 mins and those bastards are dangereus.. if you dont die you are gonna get sick(my grandma got cancer on exact spot she got stung at) ive searched a bit on the internet if there is something that repells them and well there are some things but idk if they work.. like some ultra sonic bs idk.. its european giant hornets in my case.. if somebody has any advice i will try it😅im desperate.. i already have put the nets on every window and door so they cant come in anymore but i would like to be able to smoke a cigg on my damn balcony for 5 mins and not shitting my pants after hearing that creepy buzzing 😅
I hate hornets. I honestly don't know if coffee grounds will work. I think the key is finding the nest and getting rid of it, but I am not an expert. Sorry I am not more help.
Why doesn’t anybody tell you what type of compost they’re using?
Where in the transition zone are you?
I am just south of Nashville.
@TheLawnShark I'm thinking about rye grass for the quick germ. How do you feel about P. Rye in DC? It's basically on the transition borderline. I'm thinking I'll be better off with a blend instead of all P. Rye.
@@appiconll You may be ok. My concern for you is the humidity in the summer. Perennial Rye does ok with heat if it's not too long of a stretch, but heat and humidity, it does not handle well.
@TheLawnShark I think I'll go with the blend. We had a little bit of die-off this summer, so next summer, we'll use sprinklers to keep it alive. Thanks!
Do I just do this once a season? Or do I have to do it monthly?
Spurge is really bad this year! I put a pre-emergent in February and will again in October but im thinking I need another dose in June! Keep up the great work!
Spurge has been relentless! And thanks!
Do you have a micronutrient that you are using? Keep up the great work on the videos!
Thank you! I have used N-Ext Micro Greenes with great success in the past, but have not used it this year.
What setting was your spreader? No setting guide for the Scott’s Elite on the bag. The turf becoming immune to the same herbicide would take a lot of repetitive applications. Once or twice a year probably isn’t enough but always best to check with the manufacturer of the product.
I have a Spyker Spreader and it was at a 2.5 - 3.0. Not sure what the Scott's Elite would be. I agree that it would need to be repetitive to build immunity, but the guidelines are set for a reason and I believe it is better to be safe than sorry.
@@TheLawnShark Yes, good advice. I talked to the makers of Headway and Heritage G. They said it’s OK to mix the two products but Headway may be a little more broad of its application because it has two key ingredients versus one as in Heritage. Both fine products! One thing I know for sure, fungus is tough to get rid of and depending on the size of your yard, can get kind of pricey to manage as well!
@@stevehiner7392 Indeed. I spend more time and money worrying about it than just about anything else.
yes sir
Thanks!
What is the cleaner you use?
Fuel Defense Carburetor and Choke Cleaner Spray, but you can use any carburetor cleaner you want.
Did kill your grass?
No, not at all.
@@TheLawnShark Thank you Good job your yard looks great . I will order that soon . Was going to try Image . I have well water just concerned about water .
U forget alot
I'm sorry, I forget who you are.
Anyone watching this video, please wear your PPE! The instructions clearly state the dangers of this chemical. Long pants, long sleeve shirts, eye protection, and face mask. Wash your clothes right after, too.
Thanks.
Hey Dino just asking isn't max rate 1 oz/1,000 and is that just for a huge outbreak or what?
It's really just coverage area. .49 oz per 1000 for preventative and .98 oz per 1000 for curative (if you have an outbreak).
How long before you can reseed?
With Tenacity you can reseed right away. It is a pre and post emergent that does not affect seed germination.
Thank you sir.
I sprayed some nutsedge about a week ago, it has turned yellow, but some of it hasn't died back yet. Do you have to repeat the Sledgehammer application a second time? Thanks, John.
I have never had to before. I would give it another week and see what happens.
transition zone problems…
You know it well!
Does it have to be used coffee grounds? What about using fresh coffee grounds?
I have never tried fresh. If you do, let me know.
I seeded spf30 hybrid kbg survived south florida. May be a good seed to mix with fescue. And its cheap lol.
Thanks! I’ll check it out!
At least it´s the back right?! No one sees that but you Dino 😉😅 I don´t see any Poa, do you never have issues with that? Mine is just crazy at the moment, I gave up doing something about it, so much poa, so many patches!
Yes, the backyard. No issues with Poa. I have given up on a 4-season backyard. I am going to just be ok with a 3-season lawn.
I put hybrid bluegrass in part of my backyard lawn. The fescue is dormant even with watering... but that hybrid stuff is still going! It's meant as a tough drought resistant grass.
What is the brand?

Thank you for your sympathy. Anything else?
The backyard is like watching the Yankees. Starts off great and then falls apart in mid Summer. As a fan of them and your channel I will still support and hope for the best 💚💙👍🏻🦸🏻♂

Kentucky 31 the official grass of Tennessee.
Ha! You're not wrong!
Dude, now just hear me out. Get lawn paint and spray it green! Should buy you the 6 weeks that you need and you'd have another episode for the peeps!
Ha! I'll think about it.
I live in GA. The best way to keep Fescue green throughout the summer here is to invest in an irrigation system with a rain sensor since fescue has absolutely no heat or drought tolerance. Also apply fungicides regularly according to the label for brown patch disease starting in April through August or September.
I have irrigation. This issue is the Perennial can't take the excessive heat and humidity. The Fescue is fine in my yard, it's just the Perennial.
Plant zoysia
I may consider it.
@@TheLawnShark thanks for opening your door to help others with your lawn care journey.
I love Zoysia, but it's slow and there's a lot of shade there. Some of the more shade tolerant may work, but idk, that side where the prg died looks to have way too much shade for zoysia.
I don’t think zoysia is right for your situation Dino. It’s a great type but they all have their cons
@@AntoineClaquin-cf2hd I don’t think so either. Too much shade. The transition zone sucks. Throw in a bunch of shade and here we are.
how thick of a layer does it lay with one pass? i was told to do about 1/4" for a top dress, does that mean i should do more than one pass with the lanzie?
It's hard to say exactly, but it's about a 1/4 inch if the compost is a good quality.
Some problems with fungus in the lawn is when you re seed your lawn use the exact seed you use in previous season. By mixing different seed it does give enough time to be fungus resistant. I been using the same seed the same cultivar that I used in the pass. Now I get very little fungus, but I do put down some fungicide early about July and I hardly get any fungus.
Good to know!
I have fescue. I hate it.
Great job😊😊😊
Thank you.
Im about to sprag coffee allover my backyard
Does this work for yellow jackets too?
Honestly, I am not sure. If you try it, please let me know.
Great team work ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊
Thank you!
Great job. Big job. I think you’d have been happier with the MS271 20 inch chain. I love mine. Bigger chain and cuts like butter.
Thanks! I looked at that one as well, but the dealer said this was the best bang for the buck. I could always get a second one. :)
Great work!!

Cool that you have this available. My landscape place costs $30/$45/yd depending on which one compost you get. I looked up compost facility but nothing for my city and the others are locked to residents so I didnt both digging deeper.
We are very fortunate!
Shark, Sorry to hear about your tree damage. Glad you and your family are okay, and the damage wasn’t worse. What brand is the 4-wheel dump cart, with the pneumatic tires, I need to get me one of those as a multi-purpose tool?
It's a Gorilla Cart. It comes in a 4 gallon and 7 gallon model. I got the 7 gallon model. It holds up to 1200 lbs. Here is one of my affiliate links on Amazon, but you can buy them at Home Depot or Lowes, I think. amzn.to/3XR05L5

Could have been much worse. Thank you!
I didn't see that shed before. Love the dark blue color. Tough shed too, I would expect a lot more damage. Nice work!

Wow, glad you are ok and it wasn’t any worse. My brother in law doesn’t live too far from you, he’s in Brentwood but on vacation at the moment. Hopefully his place is ok
All good. It was a freak 15 minute wind storm and then it died down.

Well done brother... Stay safe...
Thanks brother!
Curious why you would want to use N during hot periods when it's proven to stress the grass, be it fed by granules or by liquid. Huh.
Proven? Against all grass types? Bermuda's growth season is the heat of summer. This is the perfect time to give it N. I will be tapering off on the Fescue, and balancing with some K, but the Bermuda wants and needs N during the hot summer season.
